Marie Alexandra Oates was born on 25 July 1915 in Toronto, Ontario, Canada.2 She was christened in April 1916 at Christ Church, Bay Ridge in Brooklyn, New York, USA.2 She married Eric Gordon Outram, son of Harold William Sidney Outram and Gladys Eunice Young, on 26 March 1942 at Moose Jaw, Saskatchewan, Canada, in a civil ceremony. Their marriage was blessed at St Mark’s Church, Mount Kisco, New York, USA on 3 Oct 1942.2 Marie Alexandra Oates died on 22 November 2011 in Ditchling Common, Sussex, England, at age 96.2 She was buried on 2 December 2011 at Chobham, Surrey, England, UK,with her husband Eric (154) in his plot.3
Marie Alexandra Oates was known by her family and friends as Cully, Alex and Sandra. While her family lived in Brookline, Boston, Massachusetts, USA (1924-1931), she recalled the cold winters, with ice being cut from the lake (no refrigerators yet) and the great fun she had with all the Irish children there.2 She was educated at Mills College, Oakland, California when her family lived in Hollywood, California (1931-1936).
She first met Eric Outram c1938 while living in Gerrards Cross, Buckinghamshire, UK (1936-1939). As war broke out, they maintained a correspondence as she returned to the USA, and he was posted to Canada. She worked for Sperry Gyroscope and for British Overseas Airways Ltd at The Atlantic Clipper and Marine Base, La Guardia Field, New York.2 She traveled by train to Moose Jaw to visit Eric, and their subsequent wedding was a happy surprise for her family in New York. Harold Outram, Eric's father, was able to attend the ceremony in New York, while on government business in the USA. They returned to Moose Jaw, then when reassigned, drove east across the United States (c1943, no trans-Canada highway yet) to Trenton, Ontario. While at Trenton, they were billeted with Randolph Hewton, the Canadian artist, and his wife Benedicta, ‘Bené’. They were then posted back to the UK and lived in Pinner, Middlesex.
As war ended, they moved to 88 Beaufort St, Chelsea, London (1945-1948), where their first two children arrived, each taking one of the Hewtons’ names. They then moved out of London to ‘Longacres’, Chobham, Surrey, which, at the time, was one of the 4% of UK homes with central heating, her requirement, and close to Woking with its very good rail service to the City of London, his requirement. They lived and raised their 6 children there for 23 years (1948-1971). She enjoyed ensuring that as many of her children as possible would always come with her to church, her social hub, every Sunday. After Eric died, she lived on at ‘Longacres’ for another 6 years before moving to Windlesham (1977-2011), living ‘on her own’ for 40 years.2

Guy Joseph Marie de Villardi de Montlaur was born on 9 September 1918 in Biarritz, Pyrenees Atlantiques, France.1 He married Adelaide Piper Oates, daughter of Frank Richardson Oates and Marie Adelaide Piper, on 3 July 1943 at Denham, Buckinghamshire, England.1 Guy Joseph Marie de Villardi de Montlaur died on 10 August 1977 in Garches, Hauts-de-Seine, at age 58.1
Guy Joseph Marie de Villardi de Montlaur was also known as Guy de Villardi, comte de Montlaur.1 He was a French painter from the Languedoc family of Montlaur.1 He joined the French military (national service) after the Munich Agreement in 1938 and, after war was declared in September 1939, served with a reconnaissance group "Les Corps Francs" where he participated in raids across the German Border. After the German invasion and demobilization in September 1941, he worked with the French Resistance to prepare a passport based on his mother being Brazilian and that he had business to conduct in Brazil. Using this, he escaped via Lisbon, Portugal to work with the British Secret Service, MI6. He then joined the Free French Naval Marines in England.2 He landed on Sword Beach in Normandy on 6 June 1944 with the 1er BFMC troops (aka "Kieffer Commandos"), participated in the Battle of Normandy, and landed again in Holland on 1 November 1944 (Operation Infatuate). This operation opened the port of Antwerp and enabled the allied troops to invade Northern Germany. By the age of 25 he had received seven citations for valour in battle ("Croix de Guerre") and the French Légion d’Honneur. His rank when he left the French Navy was Capitaine de Corvette, the equivalent of a Lieutenant Commander.
